Porec, the biggest tourist destination in Istria and one of the biggest in Croatia is situated in the middle of the western coast of Istria. Although the beginnings of this town date from prehistory, it had a greater rise during Roman rule. Porec became the seat of the diocese at the end of the 3rd century and it was the seat of the Istrian Sabor from 1861 during the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy.
